final decision on our band name

after we have been discussing what band name we will be using we have all decided to use the name:

review of music video

in the music video that me, Nick and Damon have created there were lots of good points and there were also a few bad points, although the bad points were major as they were major aspects into the conventions that we are following for our genre of music video. Here are a few points of what we did well:

1. the execution of the shots

2. the idea of the opening scene introducing the audience to the band

3. the playing of the instruments

4. some of the shots in the story board worked well

5. almost all of the shots were steady

6. the colours of the clothing that the band was wearing

7. the clothing of the band suited the genre of the music

8. the props went well with the song

9. the location of the narrative was good

now here are the points that we did not do so well at:

1. the location looked like a pub sitting area (not suited for our genre of music)

2. the lip syncing needs to be improved as there is too much teeth being showed

3. some of the performance shots were not in sync with the beat of the song

4. the lighting changes throughout the film

5. some of the shots are missing

as there are so many problems that are major in our draft we have decided to film inside and start the whole thing from scratch again as this will improve our video quality and it will also fit in with most of the conventions of a rock music video.

Conventions to consider when filming our final music video

As you can see our planning and expectations had not gone to our advantage so we have had to have a massive rethink of where we will be filming, who will be the band and who will be in the narrative side of the story, the props, some of the camera shots ect...

I have thought about looking into all of the conventions that are most common in a rock music video and I will be listing them to later on show them to Damon and Nick, here is my research on the most common and important conventions:

1. Rock videos are all performance and narrative based

2. The narrative shows either a person’s relationship being made or it being broken

3. The performance is more aimed at the band either playing in an urban area with lots of straight lines and sharp edges in the background or they are performing at a concert to thousands of people

4. Sometimes in the video there is the bands logo in the background

5. The location and the props have to fit in with the genre of music being played

6. The lighting has to be dark in the background and the band is lit up showing them as the main attention

7. All of the colours that are used are mainly dark and deep

8. Sometimes videos are weird

9. Usually some special effects

10. Usually set at night time or in the streets

And there are many more but these are just the main 10 that I think are most important. As we are making a rock music video I think that we should follow as many of these conventions as we possibly can and if we don’t I will be posting later on about why we have not followed these conventions.

location idea for our final version

these are a few pictures that I have taken of my house and I think that some of the pictures in here could make a good potential location for our final draft of music video, although some of the rooms are messy, all that would need to be done here is to move all of the things out of the rooms and move the furniture to one side.

Also there are a few pictures of the shed that are located in my back garden and the garage that is on the front of the property and as you can see from the pictures they are full of items and stuff, but if they are cleared out then they would be a really good location as they suit the genre of the music that we are making the video for.
